Little bottles of spice ad herb mixes are so expensive. If you have a well stocked spice & herb cabinet, it’s easy to make your own, like this Italian Herb mix.
A few common herbs together make up a versatile mix for baking, adding to proteins or sprinkled onto salad. Most Italian mixes are a blend of parley, basil, rosemary, marjoram and thyme.
The best part of making your own is to be able to customize it according to your preferences. If you really like parsley and basil, increase the amounts. Don’t like marjoram, or don’t have it? Leave it out.
My quick mix below makes just enough to fill up my store bought Italian herb mix bottle again – but for a fraction of the price.
Italian Herb Mix
- 2 tbsp dried basil
- 2 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tbsp dried rosemary
- 2 tbsp dried parsley
- 1 tbsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp dried marjoram
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
Mix together and store in an air tight container, away from heat and light.
If you want some spice and kick, add a bit of dried chili flakes or some cayenne pepper.
it might not be traditional to include the garlic and onion powder, but that’s how I chose to make mine!
